New Chrome for Android vulnerability leaves your device prone to hackers

22 Feb 2019

If you are an Android user, then you have things to worry about! According to the reports, a new security exploit has been discovered in Android that leaves your device vulnerable to a few security threats. All of this has to do with the Google Chrome Browser.

Since Google Chrome comes pre-installed in most of the Android devices, it can be certainly stated that the number of infected devices is way more than what you can imagine.

Now, let understand how this vulnerability works. The malicious code is not present in Google Chrome Browser, but the vulnerability gets activated the moment you get onto any website with a malicious code. Then, the hacker on the other side will very easily get a grip on your Android device.

The complete control that we are talking about includes the ability to make calls, read your phone book, messages, etc. The worst thing is that they can automatically download applications without the user’s permission, which in turn leads the way to more malicious softwares on your Android device.

“As soon as the phone accessed the website the JavaScript v8 vulnerability in Chrome was used to install an arbitrary application (in this case a BMX Bike game) without any user interaction to demonstrate complete control of the phone. The vuln being in recent version of Chrome should work on all Android phones; we were checking his exploit specifically, but you could recode it for any Android target since he was hitting the JavaScript engine.”

The users should just stay aware and avoid using Google Chrome browser for the time being. The good thing is that the users will not have to wait long for a security patch as Google will certainly release a new update soon. All you will be needed to do is update your Google Chrome Browser as soon as a new update is available. According to the reports, Google and its counterparts are already working on the security patch.
