ConnectWise Adds 147 Tampa Jobs, Thousands Anticipated

Technology company ConnectWise has announced that has added 147 new jobs to its Tampa campus since February 2014. The new jobs used grant money from the state to attract top talent. Under the terms of the grant through Florida’s Qualified Target Industry program, the jobs must be created between now and 2021 and have an average salary of $47,581. The company was personally congratulated by Florida Gov. Rick Scott on its success at an event held on Tuesday.

The Tampa Bay area has seen a boom in job creation over the past year and the trend is expected to continue into the future. A representative for the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. says that recruitment, retention, and other assistance projects are expected to bring 3,270 high-paying jobs to the area.

In the past year, more than 20 major job-producing relocations or expansions have been announced for the area. Ashley Furniture is opening new workspaces replacing 10 vacant Carmike Cinemas theaters and more than 100 employees will be supporting those operations soon. Johnson & Johnson is building a new shared-services headquarters with 500 new Tampa jobs created. Accusoft is expanding its Tampa headquarters for a net gain of 125 Tampa jobs.

A major redevelopment project has been proposed for a 40-acre area around Amalie Arena that could create 6,700 Tampa jobs with an average wage of $78,000. Another redevelopment project has been proposed for Port Tampa Bay in the area north of The Florida Aquarium. That plan would create 9 million square feet of mixed-use development and cost roughly $1.7 billion.

According to Enterprise Florida, a division of the state Department of Economic Opportunity, more than 33,000 total Tampa jobs are expected to result from the economic development efforts of the last fiscal year. The accompanying construction and infrastructure improvements will pump millions of dollars into the local economy.
