HTC One M8 (GPE) receives Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

21 Feb 2019

The most awaited firmware update has finally arrived for HTC One M8, at least for its Google Play Edition. Finally, HTC has officially started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to its HTC One M8 GPE smartphones.

However, upcoming 5-incher HTC One A9 will be the first HTC smartphone to run Android M, but HTC One M8 (GPE) will be the first device to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update OTA. According to the market research, there are millions more One M8 regular version in the market than the lower-numbered One M8 GPE phones that comes without HTC Sense UI. But, this could be a relief to the regular phone users as their devices will also be updated soon.

As Google itself handles the firmware update for its Google Play Edition smartphones from different OEM, it will first send the final version of the update to the smartphone-makers to make the process quicker. Normally, OEMs have to take care of the complete Android update process after receiving the not-so-complete firmware package from Google’s Android. According to the sources, HTC One M8 GPE Android Marshmallow package is available in a 450.4MB file.

By the end of 2015, HTC has also planned to roll out the official Marshmallow update to its flagship HTC One M9 and regular HTC One M8 devices. Apart from these devices, HTC will also release the latest firmware update to One M9+, One E9+, One E9, One ME, One E8, One M8 Eye, Butterfly 3, Desire 816, Desire 820 and Desire 826 smartphones in 2016.
