Motorola USA has started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to its second-generation Moto G smartphones, which was pushed in India and Brazil in February 2016. Many users have confirmed that the software update is readily available in the menu (settings > about phone > software update). In the United States, many users have already confirmed about receiving the update notification on screen.

Although the software version is as same as the one rolled out in India and Brazil, it has an additional January security patch from Android. Apart from the Marshmallow goodies, the package has redesigned app permissions, Doze and Google Now on Tap.

Motorola launched this handset in the US for less than $200 in 2014, but the LTE version of the device hasn’t made it the US. However, in India, both the 3G and LTE variants of Motorola Moto G have received the Android 6.0 update. When launched, it was running on Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) version of firmware, later updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop in January last year. It’s expected that Moto G wouldn’t receive the Android 5.1 update, instead it would jump to Marshmallow.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow has also been rolled out to Moto G Turbo Edition in January 2016. Moto G (3rd Gen) has also received the update, but with the December 2015 security patches.

Meanwhile, the European dual-SIM version of Moto G hasn’t received the software update yet. Despite having the dual-SIM option, the handset is not working in its potential as Android 5.1 has built-in support for dual-SIM. Motorola USA website hasn’t been updated with the update information.
