The mostly anticipated graphics card of the year NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 has been officially unveiled, along with a sibling GTX 1070. Why we used Titan X in the article of new NVIDIA graphics card? It’s because when compared with last year’s Titan X graphics card, new GeForce GTX 1080 performs better with low power demands (180W against 250W) and less price ($599 against $999).

NVIDIA has used a new tech called simultaneous multi-projection in the newly introduced Pascal architecture to develop the new graphics cards. According to the company, virtual reality and multi-monitor gaming will perform better with these cards than any other available cards in the market.

“The GeForce GTX 1080 is almost irresponsible amounts of performance,”said NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang in his tweet. NVIDIA claims three times the power efficiency and twice the virtual reality performance than Titan X. The most interesting thing is, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 with a $379 price tag, also outperforms the Titan X. Both of these Pascal GPUs are built on a 16nm FinFET process.

As of now, NVIDIA GTX 980 was the high-performer in the field of VR, which was often recommended too. Now, the price of GTX 980 will be going down with the entry of more powerful and affordable card.

Conscious of the need to provide more power-intensive applications to fuel demand for its GPUs, NVIDIA has also unveiled a VR Funhouse experience, which showcases its various VRWorks software development tools.

VR Funhouse is compatible with the HTC Vive and will soon be made available through the Steam store, integrating visual, audio, and touch technologies that NVIDIA has developed for creating more immersive VR content. And if all that wasn’t enough, there’s now a new Ansel in-game photography tool, which adds visual filters, 360-degree captures, and a whole lot more to the traditional screenshot tool.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 will be available in the market on May 27th and GTX 1070 will be available from June 10 onwards. NVIDIA will also launch the founders edition cards of both these models (GTX 1080 for $699 and GTX 1070 for $449), which will be featuring speed-binned chipsets that would perform better than base spec with most overclocking headroom.

Meanwhile, rumors have already surfaced about the launch of similar next-generation graphics cards from AMD in the coming weeks, very soon. AMD is said to be working on its Polaris architecture to develop affordable VR-ready graphics cards.
