On early Monday, Pinellas Park has witnessed a major car accident killing one person in the vehicle. The vehicle is said to be travelling very fast and struck a pillar supporting the US 19 overpass at the Byan Dairy Road intersection.

As part of the investigation on scene, police have closed the part of Bryan Dairy Road (118th Avenue). From the initial report, one person inside the vehicle has died. All US 19 frontage roads were also closed for further investigation of the scene, said authorities.

The major wreck happened early in the morning, at about 3 a.m, and the person wasn’t identified by the initial investigation. According to officers investigating the accident, the car was travelling at a high speed and crashed into the pillar, then caught fire immediately.

The fire department has requested for an inspector from the state Department of Transportation to assess the overpass for any damage. As the accident scene investigation could take several hours, daily commuters of this area encouraged to change the route during the early hours and avoid U.S. 19 frontage roads as well as Bryan Dairy Road.
