Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) YouTube has made it official that in the recent future, it is going to discontinue YouTube’s direct webcam upload feature. They released a brief report in this regard, stating the reason for discontinuing the feature was the incredibly less interest that the users were showing in it.

In the update, it was stated that “because it is rarely used and is built on a technology that is no longer supported”. This is not the first time, when some tech giant that decided to discontinue something because they are built on outdated technology. In the past, even Adobe faced such a situation where in a lot of tech giants wanted Adobe to shut down Flash Player.

The YouTube Webcam upload feature will not be available for use coming this January. In their brief update, YouTube has also mentioned a few alternatives that can be used if the users want to upload a video captured by their webcams. The report states, “You can use software on your computer to record and save a webcam video, and then upload the video to YouTube.

Popular software includes Photo Booth for Mac OS X and Camera for Windows 8+. If you have another OS, you may need to look up how to record videos using your webcam by referencing your device manual or searching online.” You can always use your smartphone’s camera to upload videos to YouTube directly.

The Webcam capture feature was initially launched in the year 2006, recently after Google acquired YouTube. Some experts believe that this is a right step by YouTube as the Webcam upload feature was not that greatly into use and it will in turn allow them to come up with something better.
