There has been an alarming rise in the number of tooth extractions among kids all across United Kingdom. The United Kingdom’s National Health Service has stated this as a disappointing situation. It is disappointing because this scenario is not just for a year; instead it has been continuing for the past four year now and is increasing every year. The rate of tooth extractions is high, the younger you go. The National Health Service has stated this as a bad situation as this points to unhealthy teeth in the younger generation of the nation.

According to the reports, the issues regarding teeth have been alarmingly high over the past few years in the United Kingdom. The statistics suggests that the number of tooth extractions performed in kids under the age of 10 is 33,781 during the year 2014-15 and this is just one year. The United Kingdom National Health Service has been doing various campaigns with regard to educate individuals at this concern, but it has not had the impact that they would have wanted to. Last year, UK saw in increase by 3% in the instances of tooth extractions.

According to the data published by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC), the number of kinds going for tooth extractions has been on a high for the past four years now. The exact numbers are 128,558, and this is also a new record and is highly disappointing. In 2011-12, the increase was approximately about 10%, where the annual total was 30,761.

NHS Chief Dental Officer, Sara Hurley has stated, “Even though people understand the impact of a sugary diet so many children have advanced tooth decay – a highly preventable disease. We are also creating a legacy of obesity and significant health problems. If we are to get serious about tackling this then prevention is the key.”
